A fundraiser by Helena
- Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance
- 4th October, 2018 — 5th October, 2018
In a bid to raise money for the fantastic charity that is the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance; on the 4th - 5th October 2018 (specific times tbc), Helena Gorham and Luke Edwards will be running a mere 54 miles from the Allianz office in Maidstone to the Allianz Head Office in Guildford. No, that is not a typo, it is indeed 54 miles. For those who have trouble picturing that kind of distance, it is just over the equivalent of running two marathons back to back. Following Tom Leonard and Luke Edwards’ 28 mile run to work in April last year, Luke planned to run further this year as he felt he needed more of a challenge (!) In his infinite wisdom, (sarcasm noted), he decided to run almost double the distance with Helena; someone who has never ran further than 1.5 miles until March this year!
Since March, progress has been somewhat emotional with blood, sweat and tears being shed along the way. They have however managed to run 20 miles in one go within 2 months of training and progress is moving somewhere, they are just hopeful that, that somewhere is forward! There is now a training programme in place that they’re sure will be challenging or as Helena has described “hell on Earth”, but there’s no backing down now and it should keep them out of trouble for the next few months at least.
They have set a very ambitious target and whilst they would be over the moon to achieve this, any sort of donation would be incredible. The Air Ambulance is a brilliant charity that provide a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service to patients that have suffered trauma or serious medical emergencies. When required, the specialists are able to perform surgery, administer anaesthetics and give blood transfusions to patients at the roadside; ultimately saving many lives that would not have made it had they waited until they arrived at a hospital. They operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and rely almost entirely on donations and fundraising, without this they would not be able to continue the life-saving work they do.
Further updates will follow on how you are able to get involved with upcoming fundraising events to help get Helena and Luke closer to their target, and also how you can be involved on the day should you be as enthusiastic (mad) as they are!
Thank you in advance for any donations you are able and willing to give.
